History:
A Navy child through and through, Victor was born in London but very soon moved across the stars. When his father, a Captain of the EAF, was posted to the Citadel aboard a battleship assigned to its defence, his family was flown out behind him amongst a flotilla of civilian transports. Victor was just three years old when the fleet set sail for the Citadel, and lived out his formative years within the Wards.
Victor adored his father. Enamoured by the tales he brought home of the exploits of the men and ships under his command, the young boy grew up filled with a desire to follow in his father’s footsteps and continue the legacy he was building as a protector of the Citadel and of humanity. His mother supported his schooling with the intention of seeing him into the EAF Academy, but a rather large obstacle sidetracked his progress – the manifestation of his biotic powers.
The shockwave he produced wrecked his bedroom in short order. Fortunately no structural damage was inflicted on the house, and he was very quickly taken toa hospital equipped to handle biotic patients. There he was thoroughly tested, and his abilities deemed potent enough to necessitate stabilisation using theL5n implant. He left as a fully-fledged biotic at the age of 13, and continued through high school while training his newfound powers alongside his work.
Upon graduating, he spent a year training his biotics and engaging in part-time work across the Citadel before enlisting at the EAF Academy at 17. His instructors there, having greatly anticipated the son of the esteemed Captain Thorne, had high hopes for him. He didn’t disappoint, acing almost all of his tests and examinations. At 18, he graduated with flying colours in the presence of his father, who had flown back to the Citadel filled with pride to witness the moment.
Victor’s first assignment was aboard a cruiser serving as the lead of an anti-pirate flotilla. There, he established himself as a highly disciplined crewman and quick-thinking gunner, renowned for his ability to nimbly take over the systems he was assigned to and his penchant for examining the tactical situation from the background to give direction to his commanding officers when able. After a tour of duty, he was promoted to Lieutenant and reassigned to a larger cruiser – commanded by his father.
Between assignments to rout pirate incursions into Citadel space, this fleet commonly partook in show-the-flag patrols of the border. It was little larger numerically than the usual anti-pirate frigate flotilla, but the cruiser at its head was notoriously accurate with its main gun thanks to Captain Thorne’s almost precognitive ability to predict the most destructive firing trajectories. Right at home alongside his father, Victor went from strength to strength, serving numerous tours of duty and earning promotions up to Commander. At the age of 28, he set sail once again at his father’s right hand – right into the clutches of tragedy.
The fleet’s first assignment was based on hideously inaccurate intelligence;the pirate fleet they had been sent to crush was far larger than they’d anticipated. Captain Thorne’s flagship took numerous hits in the opening duel, including a shot to the bridge... When Victor came to after having been briefly knocked out by an explosion of equipment, he found his father lying prone, impaled on a shard of glass sent flying from the holoprojector.
Victor still doesn’t know exactly how long he knelt there, cradling his father’s body, begging him to get back up. His senses only returned to him when a Lieutenant shook him, telling him to get on his feet. Looking around, Victor realised something rather important – he was now the ranking officer. The only thought to surface was that he needed to get back up and fight this battle. His father would’ve let nothing short of death keep him from his responsibility to his men; his son could afford to do no less.
When Victor stood up, he ordered his father’s body removed from the bridge before he got to work. He turned around a changed man, eyes filled with iron-clad resolve. With a situation report and a handful of barked orders, he rallied the fleet and began his counterattack. He thought just like his father and then some, expertly positioning the fleet to commence screening against the pirate fighters while his own ship diverted full power to her main gun and began laying down frighteningly accurate fire support against the enemy flagships. Mere hours later, while his own surviving vessels gathered their dead and limped away from the battlefield, Victor had made quite certain they left the entire pirate fleet reduced to flotsam.
After giving his report, he returned to the Citadel to commendations and medals for his bravery and masterful command, both in the face of an overwhelming enemy and of the tragedy that befell him. After his father’s funeral, his commanding officers contacted him to bestow a promotion to the rank of Captain; after all, who better to continue the legacy and honour the achievements of the great Richard Thorne than his own son? Since then, the new Captain Thorne has proved himself time and again to be an even greater leader and tactician than his father. He mastered tactical applications of outnumbered fleets against critical enemy targets, coordinating the firepower available to him for maximum effect while inviting minimum risk of return fire. His ships have even been boarded on more than one occasion, only to have the Captain step onto the front line himself to break the invaders with his mighty biotics.
Most recently, Victor has been posted at the helm of a recently completed EAF flagship, an enormous battlecarrier named Harbinger. She is as much a symbol of the Citadel’s power alongside the vast Colossus as she is an exercise in a new doctrine of mass driver weaponry, forgoing the use of a single huge cannon along the vessel’s length in favour of numerous smaller turrets that can both engage multiple softer targets and overwhelm the defences of a single foe with sheer weight of fire. With command of this mighty vessel, Victor serves as a protector of the Citadel, deployed only when the overwhelming firepower at his command is most needed.

Physical Appearance:
Powers:
- Biotics: Victor’s natural ability to harness Dark Matter is further amplified by his possession of L5n biotic implants. He is a Vanguard –a shock trooper whose powers revolve around closing in upon the enemy to attack at short range. He can accelerate himself into a dangerous shielded charge, unleash destructive shockwaves of kinetic energy and telekinetically pull objects and enemies towards him.
Abilities:
- Military Training: Victor is a consummate soldier, disciplined and uncompromising. Though he lacks the field expertise of a specialist, he can hold his own perfectly well in most firefights. On the naval battlefield, however, he is a prodigious tactician and strategist. He knows full well the capabilities of every vessel under his command and can very quickly assess any tactical situation to determine the best course of action.
Weapons:
- Citadel Specialised Arms “Vindicator” Assault Shotgun: Lightweight and immensely versatile, the semi-automatic Vindicator uses magnetically accelerated shrapnel packages cut from a central block of depleted uranium alloy as its primary ammunition, but can fire slugs and shells of all descriptions from its rear ammunition drum, from explosive bolts to airburst warheads to trackers.
- Kassia Fabrications M-12 Locust: Victor’s personal Locust is extensively modified, with a slightly denser ammunition alloy, refined targeting system and improved recoil dampening.
- Citadel Specialised Arms “Ravener” Vibro-Knife: An exercise in miniaturisation of vibro-weapon power sources and agitation motors, the Ravener is a new design of compact vibro-knife that has just left prototyping stages. Its hardened, weave-edged blade vibrates at such a frequency as to emit a pale blue light when activated, giving a faint, deadly hiss when drawn through flesh and unprepared armour alike.
