Name: Whirl
Aliases: Autobot Whirl, Whirl the Psycho, Whirl the Troublemaker, Put that down Whirl, Don't touch that Whirl, Whirl the greatest, Whirl give me back the keyboard, Whirl is hot, Whirl Stahp
Age: over six million years old
Gender: none (identifies as male)
Species: Autobot (Reformatted Cybertronian)
Alignment: Whirl
Play by: IDW Whirl
Date of Birth: unknown
Place of Birth: Cybertron, Rodion City-State
Physical Appearance:
that's whirl's leg, not an unfolding massive genitalia.
Whirl looks somewhat lanky, with spindly legs and arms, though his arms look all the more gangly with his large rotor-bases on his fore-arms. His body is sleak and lean, teal-colored with silver and blue-steel highlights. His head is simplistic and mono-eyed, and instead of hands, he has large metal claws. His slim legs are digitigrade and clearly designed to fold in on themselves. His chest bears the most identifiable of his features: Twin gun barrels mounted on his helicopter form's nose and cockpit.
When transformed, Whirl takes the form of a dual rotor helicopter.
Powers:
Transformation: Cybertronians invented and mastered the art of transformation during the great war. Whirl is able to shapeshift himself between his humanoid robot and Attack Chopper forms at will.
Energy Conversion and Consumption: Energon is a powerful element that fuels transformers. Any fuel substance that can be used to generate energy can be consumed and turned into energon or consumed directly by Whirl, allowing him to process the fuel into Energon himself.
Mechanical: Whirl is entirely mechanical, his technology is his biology. A living machine. He's capable of interfacing directly with numerous machines, using his living code to rapidly access other technology and interface with computers as well as perform repairs on himself, augmenting his machinery and weaponry, and altering the capabilities of his vast circuits.
Spark: The only way to kill a transformer is to snuff out its Spark, the surging power of life gifted by their god and creator Primus. Whirl can survive near-total destruction so long as his Spark is intact and receives energon.
Abilities:
Reflexes: When you're your own vehicle, even Data Mages wish they were as good as you. Whirl's reflexes are beyond comprehension, honed by countless millenia of battle on Cybertron and Earth, and his situational awareness is at an all time high! His insane maneuvers combined with his combat reflexes makes him insanely dextrous in both modes.
Ingenious design: Both in Copter and Robot modes, Whirl has access to all his ranged weaponry, his Photonic pulse guns being chest mounted in robot form and nose-mounted in copter form, with his side-mounted Cluster Buster and Rocket Launcher becoming wing-attached weapons in copter form.
Weapons:
photonic pulse guns: Chest mounted rapid fire weapons. Whirl supposedly 'cut a whole building in half with 'em!' The validity of the statement is dubious but these two guns are both capable of rapidly firing charged photon clusters capable of blasting full-sized transformers apart.
Rocket Launcher: A side mounted rack capable of firing up to twenty unguided, anti tank projectiles. Whirl wishes to replace this weapon with a 'cosmic rust gun', but NO ONE in their right mind would give him access to such a dangerous compound!
Cluster Buster: Attached to his hip opposite his rocket launcher. The Cluster Buster fires a barrage of four shells that explode and spray fragments in a manner akin to old-earth Flak bursts. The weapon has a slow reload time and can potentially spray Whirl with a blast of his own shrapnel, but its remarkably great for anti-air and anti-organics combat.
Great Sword: Acquired from an old Cybertronian armoury, the blade is capable of folding down to something quite small. Whirl had another one but he broke it.
Rotor Blades: Built into Whirl's forearms in his robot mode, they're... rotor blades. He doesn't use them unless as a last resort or to look really really cool while killing you, they're fragile and mandatory for flight.
History:
"You wanna know a secret, hornhead? Life's messed up. I'm messed up. I've done bad things and I continue to do bad things, because the voice telling me not to...? He's not said much for a while. And y'know what keeps me going? ANGER. Anger's an insulator. Stops life getting too close. If I got myself "fixed," maybe the anger would leave me—and then I really would be screwed."
-Whirl
Created as a flyer bot in the Rodion city-state on Cybertron, Whirl was quick to leave his initial function for a new job. As a watchmaker he was quite good, and times were good for him. All that changed, though. His shop was destroyed, his life with it. He found himself in Rodion's seedy underbelly, falling in with a bad crowd and brawling regularly. When the Rodion security force brought him in, the head of staff tried to recruit him, seeing the flyer as a valuable asset. When Whirl refused, the head of staff employed Empurata to pursuade him.
Empurata, a ritualized punishment... Whirl's hands and very face were removed, cut off from him and scrapped. In place of his hands were primitive, weaponized metal claws, and in place of his head a gaunt-mono-eyed box. Whirl was left embittered and forced to join the security force. Few others would hire one who has suffered Empurata. When the war between the autobots and decepticons began, Whirl was quick to join the autobots. He had formed a bond with the Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, a bond not easily broken. Besides, Prime let whirl truly cut loose against the decepticons. If there was one thing Whirl loved doing, it was scrapping decepticons. He was so good at it he was assigned to the Wreckers, a crack commando squad with a long history.
As the war died down and the planet burned out, Whirl found himself tired and bitter. His grip on reality seemed to be slipping as fast as his race's chance of survival. He found himself with less and less to hold onto, the wreckers kicked him out only for their last mission to end in their dissolution and an unsettling high number of casualties, the best and brightest of autobot and decepticons were lost to the stars, and the planet was burnt out, a shadow of its former self. With the recent return of Megatron gave Whirl a chance to travel, and the Autobot shocked many others by joining up with the leader of the Decepticons and boarding the Nemesis, setting out to find a new life and maybe salvation for his race.
