Hello,

For the people who arrive here my name is Jess, many might not remember me from DoA, I played a female Alucard for a very short time. I never lost contact with some of yous and I attempted to create a forum with a couple. Tori kinda talked me into creating a forum and we went over some ideas. It fell onto Mass Effect which was indeed the staple idea. Originally I was going to do a ME forum during the timeline and base the stories around what was going on outside of the galaxy while Sheps was saving it.

Well I walked across my apartment to get coffee and decided that was too basic. What could we do better? DoA in space? Yes, but more than that. We could create a galaxy and adjust its laws create its rulers, and open the idea to the general public to create the characters they want and return with old characters revamped for a new experience.

Anyways, for those joining I'd like some ideas bounced back and forth and here's the place to do it if you have any. If not, that's fine, three more cups of coffee and I'll be seeing unicorns soon anyways. Unicorns always make things better.



Ideas

• The energy of the Galaxy is Dark Matter. All sources of power are equal to one another, none are generically better than the other. The strength of the energy comes from the strength of the user. This being said, the Force is equally as strong as Data Magic, Black Magic, White Magic, Chaos Magic, Necromancy, Destruction Magic, Biotics, etc. A master of the force would still be a lot stronger in the force than a rookie of black magic. Energy is based off willpower and skill of the user, none shall be OP unless said character is OP.

• There is no such thing as Canon characters here. Sparda and Alucard may exist within this reality but they are original characters if they do. Master Chief and Commander Shepard can exist within the same plane as Luke Skywalker and Captain Kirk. This forum has freedom of creativity as long as those characters can be adapted to the story line and history and their powers and abilities mirror the tech existing within the galaxy.

• The existing plane of living is within the Milky Way Galaxy, albeit a much different one. In order to keep familiarity we're going to keep to the basics. Meaning Earth, Mars, Sirius, etc. may be locations within the story. Likewise existing locations from previous role plays and from other lores may become places or planets themselves.

• The realm Genesis existed in has fixed itself and shifted through a rift placing the solar system Genesis resides in into the south western corner of the galaxy only 10 light years away from Earth. Since the broken rift has been repaired some can return from the dead, others vanish back to their reality, some remain because their realms are destroyed. This allows people to continue their character from DoA and forums before that. This is also your only gateway into importing a character from another reality, the character must of been in your roster during your time on DoA. All powers are adjusted to this universes standard.

• The Mass Effect Citadel will be the body of government and trade within the galaxy. It is linked to all major hyperspace routes and is currently only governed over by a Human council until further notice. The Citadel exists as it did in the Mass Effect series minus the reaper control.

• Time Period: 2460; And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.

• Tech Level is as follows: Tier 7: Pre-Industrial, Tier 6: Industrial Age, Tier 5: Atomic Age, Tier 4: Space Age, Tier 3: Space-Faring, Tier 2: Interstellar, Tier 1: World Builders, Tier 0: Transsentient.

• Our Tech Level is Tier 3.

All right, so I'm thinking to bring Genesis from DoA back as one of the planets. Probably a dwarf planet since it makes more sense this time around given the size of Jherra. This way people from DoA can have a familiar playground and if they want they can continue any storyline they had going on the old site as long as they can revamp it to fit with the current forum. The Crimson Vulture can be brought back as representing Isafaro in space and Kari can play as their foil from there. I'm thinking of having Tori represent Kari while bringing back the crazy ol' General for Isafaro (Assuming Ranka doesn't join and want to take the reigns again).

The other nations can follow suit from there. Since Isafaro and Kari were the most advanced places in Genesis it makes sense for them to be the first bunch in space.

Hello, I'm Mr. X, an acquaintance of yours from several forums ago. We have mutual friends that lead me here. I'd like to make several suggestions of what I personally would like to see from a sandbox space rpg.

1. Laws of Physics; in most rps the laws of physics don't naturally apply to the unnatural. I understand this but I think the laws of physics should be defined so that ships cannot break these laws and the average man understands his limitations.

2. Explain how space travel works in depth: Einstein said that the galactic speed limit is the speed of light and nothing can be faster. I have an understanding that most games and science fiction novels follow this law as well. I'd like to understand how the space travel works exactly. I like the idea of warp speed where the ship literally warps the space around it and makes the distance a lot shorter, I also like Cowboy Bebop and Mass Effects ideas of warp gates pretty much. I am just hoping you give a good reason for space travel so we all know how our ships are limited.

3. Tech level: The current tech level of our planet is 0.7, we can harness the power of the sun to run entire planets yet we still have not mastered space travel. The tech level of Mass Effect I'd reckon is 5 or 6, meaning they can travel vast distances across the stars and much more. I'm wondering what tech level you'll place here.

4. Plot Ideas: I have several that I'll pm to you Jessica so I don't clutter this space up too much anymore.

Ah good to see some of my suggestions went through. I'll be PMing you the plot ideas now that I've signed up to the forum. I would also like to allude to the suggestion of creating a bank of alien races that are native to this galaxy. I understand that the galaxy is roughly uncharted and people can create any alien they'd like, but I think it would be a good idea to have an alphabetical list of Alien races on spot and add to it as people join.

For instance:

Asari:. Humanoid race that appears mostly blue or purple. The Asari are naturally born to possess the power of dark matter, they are a fully female race that reproduces through a telepathic way. The Asari have a head fringe that is made up of hardened bone that is pointed backwards. Asari ships are extremely advanced in the shield department.

Human:. The master race of the galaxy who have taken the 'center' of the galaxy and claimed it as their own. They are egotistical creatures who are very versatile genetically. Many creatures appear human yet are very different from them, those creates come in the form of demons, vampires, angels, etc.

Klingon:. A race based off a strict code of honor, they are mostly humanoid. Their anatomy is redundant and supernumerary; every organ has a backup, including extra pairs of lungs, kidneys, an extra heart, and even a secondary brain stem, as well as an extensive and hardy skeletal structure.

Turian:. A bird like dinosaur humanoid creature. Turians have hardened skin due to their exposure to high levels of radiation on their planet. They are militant warriors often fighting between each other in ritual battles. Turian ships are highly advanced in the weapons department and pack a serious punch.

Twi'lek:. Humanoid creatures from the outerrim. They have long tentacles that extend from their skull mostly made of fat that they call leku (not looking up the actual name right now sorry,) they appear mostly human but lack body hair and have varying colors such as blue, red, pink, and some appear close to the human standard skin colors.


I think each race should have a destined home world and it should be put on the map, which I'm sure you already knew that. In terms of how to reach these home worlds I imagine a section called: OPEN SPACE, or something funky like that with sub-boards to these side worlds. Popular sub-boards can be made into legit main page boards with time. 

In terms of what you have on your main page now, I say Earth, Genesis, and the Citadel are perfect, HOWEVER, I think there should be at least one other colony world that isn't Genesis that is neutral racially. Think Coruscant that the humans founded and all races come together and pilgrimage to, maybe even a planet like New Mecca from Riddick. Just some thoughts.

On the topic of the laws of physics, is space travel similar to the Battlestar Galactica model of more realisticness, or the Star Wars style off fighter-like behavior?

Space travel is based more around a Halo meets Sins of a Solar Empire design meets Firefly. I felt that Firefly best defined standard travel from location to location while Halo and Sins defined long distance travel better. However, we're not weighed down to any one existing type of standard travel as long as they are developed through role play over time. The standard now is just the preset for the Galaxy until the tech tier slowly moves up with innovations.

No no, like... physics and the behavior of something in realspace using impulse / sublight engines. Battlestar Galactica had a system akin to space right now, with RCS thrusters, pivoting while maintaining momentum, and more. Star Wars had fighters flying with thrust vectors, and that was more like a fighter in the air.

I suppose since Halo human ships are pretty much like Battlestar Galactica it would be more similar to that. The idea is that space travel is still primitive so we would be going off old designs similar to what we have now but more advanced and continuing to advance itself over time.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to have a board for captains to enlist crewmen that can be expanded for other jobs available in the galaxy. This way ship captains can find players interested in joining their crew and vice versa. Kinda like the Wanted Pages.

I would actually like to at least run the idea of a Character Plotter and wanted characters section of the forum by you for creation. This would actually be able to help by allowing people to be able to have a place beyond PMs and and shout box to actually plot with others that they would want their characters to meet. And the wanted section would allow people to search easier for people who would be willing to play specific characters they would want to be made.

Just a thought.
